Construction Continues on Replacement Hospital

Construction work on UPMC Pinnacle Memorial’s replacement hospital facility continues to progress with micropile work for the basement and first floor areas nearly complete.  Micropiles are high-capacity foundation elements that can support heavy working loads.  Consisting of high-strength steel casing, rebar and grout, the micropiles dot the footprint of the hospital building.

Along Loucks Road, several utility poles have been relocated to accommodate road improvements and York Excavating has been working to excavate the pond.

The 220,000 square feet replacement facility will feature 130 beds in a modern five-level design where all patients will be able to heal comfortably in private rooms.  An expanded Emergency Department, additional operating rooms and cardiac catheterization laboratories, and a hybrid surgical and cardiovascular suite will incorporate advanced technology and state-of-the-art design in patient care.

The replacement facility is anticipated to be complete in mid-2019 and will include new services not currently available at Memorial, such as a Level II Specialty Care Nursery, sometimes called a NICU, and treatment for patients in need of long-term acute care.
