Emergency Department

Expert Emergency Care, 24/7

A trip to the emergency department is never planned – it happens when you least expect it.

In Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Department, our focus on patient experience and a higher level of care includes striving to achieve the shorter ER wait times.

Our Emergency Department is:

  • Open 24 hours day, seven days a week, 365 days a year
  • Provides Heart and Vascular services including accredited PCI care
  • Primary Stroke Certified

Our Emergency Department is integrated with other medical departments at Memorial, including Radiology, Laboratory, Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy.  The Hospital’s Imaging department supports the Emergency Department with computed tomography (CT) scanning, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) scanning, cardiac imaging and ultrasound.

Patients who come to Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Department are evaluated on a critical-need basis.  This means patients with life-threatening conditions will be treated first.

Emergencies and Continuity of Care

Our doctors specialize in emergency medicine, caring for patients with acute illnesses or injuries that require immediate medical attention.  Because patients with the greatest need must receive immediate care, an emergency room physician or nurse will assess all patients and prioritize them on the basis of need, not on the order of arrival.  Once the emergency is resolved, we recommend you follow up with your primary care provider to reassess your overall health.

A primary care doctor enhances your long-term health by managing your care over an extended period of time, called continuity of care. If non-urgent conditions are routinely treated in the ED, your primary care doctor may not have all the necessary information to ensure your continuity of care.
